Was driving home the other day and and main beam now doesnt work. No bother i'll just order a new sealed beam deadlight unit. Problem is they are no longer being made. Anyone know why?

Because you might as well use candles . Get yourself a decent set of Wipac halogen lights, they probably won't cost much more.

I'm sure they ARE still being made eg item 4 here http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/Shop/ViewP ... exID=17099 - but conversion to halogen units is worth while if you intend to use your car after dark.

I'd heard they are no longer in production too. Any dealer with stock will be old stock and not replaceable. May be an idea to stock up if you want to keep using them.
Reason for cessation of production? Well, how many new vehicles use 7" round headlamps? And any that do will almost certainly use halogens now, so its just a diminishing spare parts market.

Only relavent for us if you have a Minor made from '65 to '71 and want to keep it original and if so you'd be looking for Lucas badged ones s/h.

If you're converting to halogens its worth looking at different makes as some are much more domed than others and look more like the originals rather than the flat ones you sometimes see. If thats a consideration....

i believe the lack of new stock is due to a tooling issue.

it's true that no new cars use 7 inch sealed beams, but how many classics did? Minors, Minis, Wolseleys, Rileys, MG's, Triumphs? Must be a market to not just 'stop' making them.

£12.50 each is steep when a pair of halogens is barely double, and then you only ever have to buy the bulbs.

managed to get one today, as you say currently just old stock avalable at present. I do prefer the sealed bemas thats wat the car came with and ive never had a problem driving at night even in the the countryside. Its not up to modern stanards but does the job.

mmm beter go and buy a couple more then,and when they run out get a fortune for them on flea bay

Just took a pair off my car, replaced them with halogens.

Feel a fool for accidentally buying new ones with sidelights in Maybe some day I will wire those up and have two sets of sidelights...

i've got sidelights in mine. got them wired up with the late model standard sidelights too. MOT man said it was the first car he's tested with 4 sidelights

i think it makes the car much more visible than just relying on those two little standard ones.
