Help head gasket gone....I think

Hi. Our dear cedric 1954 split screen has bee buttering along and has finally given up the ghost... Local garage said it may be the head gasket.. Should I buy a new engine or let them magic it for 400/500 ponds? Totally clueless I am afraid... Any advice received with thanks x

where abouts are you,someone from your local branch would probably have a look and give you a second opinion
