I ll have to go to the garage that MOT d the car and try to get this rectified, cos the records say it has nt got an MOT. :x

You can check the MOT status of your car on-line via the DVLA:

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Ow ... G_10020539

This should identify what the problem is so worth checking first before you go to the garage. Is it a new MOT? If you got it on saturday it's possible that the DVLA records weren't updated by the time you went to the post office on sunday.

By the way, you can renew your road tax on-line now so no need to queue at the post office (but well done for finding one that opens on a Sunday!)

If you have a paper copy of the MOT - that should be enough for them.... You can't tax a car on line from say 1 August - on say 31 July if the MOT expires that day - but you CAN at the Post Office ! Perhaps they meant that the MOT cert hadn't been stamped/embossed correctly at the garage?

When I get of my cars MOTed I always check on the MOT website to see everything is alright. And I only live 1/2 mile from the test centre and everything is updated even if I've got the car MOTed on a Saturday and the MOTs are computerized now the MOT tester just has to sign the certificate.

I went to the garage that MOTd the car this morning, and they checked everything on their system everything was fine, they even gave me a duplicate certificate, i checked on the site as suggested by Louise, (thank you) and everything was ok there too, so sod it, i would ve done it online but i left it too late.

And yes, our post office in the local Asda is open on a Sunday  Must be a Northern thing.

Thanks all. :P
