I have a 3 branch exhaust in Primrose atm, but i dont particularly like it as its too noisy. The only reason i got it was so i could put a slightly larger carb on it, but after 2 failed attempts at getting one to actually work, i have decided i want my standard exhaust back.
Should i stick with the 3bore exhaust or revert back to the standard manifold and exhaust?

rereading what i have put, its pretty much a daft question really.

but is there any actual noticeable difference in performance or anything like that between the two varieties?

my minor has always had a large bore exhaust since i got it.

it fell off once, and i fitted a standard one i had lying around while i repaired the big one.

it may have been psychological, but it felt less responsive and free revving at higher rpm, like putting your foot down to overtake on a motorway. it just seemed to lack the guts.

on the bright side, it farts more with the standard one

I had a triple branch fitted and I changed it for Minor 'Pee-shooter' exhaust/manifold (Actually it was a Mini 1000 manifold, almost the same, and minor exhaust fits straight on) just as an experiment.
I only noticed a slight drop in power. However, I don't very often rev higher than 4000, so maybe it's wasted on me.

The 'Minor LCB' has fewer options of carbs to fit (Big SU or twin SU, side draft weber!).
The reason for this is the centre exhaust pipe outlet sticks out quite far (unlike the mini LCB) and so, if you're looking for an 'exotic' after market 'Mini' carb (upright weber and niki), the carb manifold wont bolt down properly, as it fouls the centre pipe.

You could get a bigger cast exhaust manifold, either a Mini 1275 (standard), Marina or Ital, these all have a bigger outlet bores and this would also enable you to fit any carb combo. (if you cut off the SU inlet manfold from the casting). These changes will cost a lot of bucks, what with the added cost of changes to the whole exhaust system.

I have got fitted a Marina exhaust manifold (single pipe exit, unlike the Ital or metro twin outlet). The simple reason I have this combo is,
a) it was free
b) you can purchase a down pipe for less than £40 from any minor stockist. (twin outlet costs a lot more!!)
c) I want to try out a different carb

My twin 1.25 HS2 inlet manifold has extra spacers to clear my LCB exhaust

Are you sure it was the exhaust that made it loud?
Non standard air filters without covers tend to be a lot louder than covered ones.
