Like a new car!

The front suspension on Millicent, my 1950 MM Tourer, had been sounding a bit loose and noisy so I decided to investigate. On disassembly I found the rubbers showed some external signs of cracking/perishing but none were severely worn. The last service the suspension on this car had was more than 50 years ago but only about 20 thousand miles accumulated in that time.
When I bought the car I also acquired a considerable hoard of both new and used spares including a set of trunnions and tie rod bushes. I also had available a set of poly bushes; nothing like being well prepared. I'm astonished and pleased to say that there is no perceptible wear in the trunnions nor was there any wear to the eyebolts or any of the pins. Things were in such good shape that I replaced only the rubber parts. I chose to use the replacement rubbers that came in the parts trove because I expect to use the car quite sparingly and the rubber is a little more compliant than poly. The difference in the car is wonderful! It sounds and feels like a new one. Driving it will be even more of a pleasure now.

Well done - did you drain and refill the dampers while on the case ?
