Hi,

I am in desperate need of some new tyres all round.


I have the standard wheels on which say 145/14 on them

if I buy 155/14, will they still fit on my rims?

I don't know anything about tyres, which this post probably shows......

Someone shed a bit of light for me?

155's will fit, and it's a very common thing.

all of our minors (except my wide wheeled one) have 155's. no modification needed.

Tyre pressures 30psi all round.

What type of wheels can fit the Morris Minor, e.g Will the mg midget rostyle fit and what others if any.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Anything with a 4 in PCD, mainly Midget and other BMC cars and I think Mini. I seem to remember fitting a pair of Hilman Imp wheels to a Mini many years ago so they must have a 4 in PCD. However all the wheels are 10 - 13 in diameter. I seem to remember there was a list recently.

You need to check the wheel offset and the clearance between the tyre and swivel pin.

Standard Minor offset is 1 inch (25.4mm) as accurately as i could measure with a piece of wood and a tape measure.

you need to aim for something similar to that so as not to make the steering too heavy. If you end up with a wheel and tyre combination that is smaller in overall diameter than the standard minor set up, not only will you find greater acceleration and hill climbing ability, but a trade off in top speed, but you could also go for a slightly smaller offset to keep the steering feel the same.

I've got 14 inch wheels that are 5.5 inches wide, with 185 tyres. With their 22mm offset the tyres just fouled on the top trunnion, so i fitted good spacers to get them to clear safely. the spacer effectively reduced the offset to 16mm, a fair bit less than the standard minor, but i've had these wheels with 185/60 tyres (smaller than a minor) and 185/70 tyres (bigger than a minor) and found the steering to be perfectly managable with either. only when you spend 10 minutes trying to parallel park in a tiny space do you start to get tired!
