What does the little orange or blue globe mean next to the topics?

I don't know if there's a technical term for it but when you're logged into the site if the 'globe' against a topic/thread is orange rather than blue it means that new posts have been added since you last viewed it. Just saves you having to click on every thread I suppose :)
