Sun wheel thrust washers

Post by Rolly Field »

I am restoring my Traveller, and have removed the Diff to check all is well, and have found that the sun wheel opposite the crown wheel moves about, while the other side is fine, I see in the Moss catalogue they sell replacement thrust washers, has anyone had this problem, and can they be replaced with out upsetting the axle, it looks like you just have to knock out the planet gear cross pin to get to them. Cheers.

Welcome to the forum. It's not something to worry about - but if you feel the need to do this - carry on!

Hello Rolly,

do try and get a GL4 oil to refill, rather than the current GL5 as it is more suited to older axles. For the sake of it I would change the thrusts, it won't upset and settings in the differential.
