Brake Fluid?

Hi there, done a bit of research in to which brake to get, but not really finding the definitive answer.

First off I have a '67 Traveller....

Basically, DOT4 fluid is what to go for, but for example the Halfords one says for disc brakes front and drum rear?

There is this product on ebay but it goes on to say it's for performance braking.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Smith-Allan-Dot-4 ... 563beabb4b

Also some say brake and clutch fluid, should i be just getting brake fluid, I don't suppose it matters!

So yeh, is any DOT 4 brake fluid going to do the job, or should it be something more specific.

Many thanks :D :D

DOT 3 is fine too - just don't use DOT5.

Hello BMCE,

"DOT 3 is fine too - just don't use DOT5."

this has been discussed here before and it's funny that if you look long enough you'll find an 'expert' who will support your views.
The fact that what he states is contrary to other 'experts' is probably typical of most subjects. However as a very long time user, on several vehicles, with no issues whatsoever and without experiencing the need to replace cylinders or indeed change the fluid.
It is easiest to change to silicone when doing a full brake overhaul but not necessary and is of benefit to vehicles that may not do a lot of miles and are laid up for periods at a time.

In Guymcc's case it's probably easiest to get Dot4 if it's just for topping up.

Not wishing to prolong things but I'm with alec on the dot5 thing, but I do agree with roy when he says 'each to his own' :D
