Standard fuel caps...

Hi, my fuel cap, which I had to break off, looks like the one below - but it seems quite expensive to buy a new one such as this:

But, there seems to be loads of other locking fuel caps on ebay, but not necessarily listed as morris minor - is the style, in the link above a standard one?

The standard cap wasn't a locking one, they got popular when the price of petrol went through the roof in the 1970s.

It seems rather expensive, you could have got one at the national rally for a lot less than that.
Make sure that the cap is vented.

Vented? I know the modern replacements are vented... but the original screw on chrome 'dome' caps - were they vented? I might just use one of thos for now and save myself 27 quid.

If the fuel cap is not vented you will get a vacuum in the tank causing fuel starvation.

But where the original chromed screw on standard caps, as sold second hand on ebay for 99p, vented???

the plain screw on original caps are vented by means of a double skin inside the cap.

i do believe locking caps were available as an optional (possibly dealer) extra.

you can get locking caps quite cheap, but they'll be the horrible looking black plastic ones. nice shiny stainless or chrome ones are in the £20 region.
