Help! No Control box!

With the help of Mark (BrixtonMorris) I will probably have a wiper with automatic parking (thanks for sending me the parts Mark :) ). Trying to fix the problem I found the old wires, but...

... the wires in my '65 Minor follow a colorscheme of an 'earlier model with flashing indicator control' (according to Haynes)
... a previous owner converted to alternator
... all wiring diagrams mention that the 'windscreen wiper switch and motor should be earthed to control box terminal E'
... and for me amazing: someone took out the control box (stolen? ), but everything is working fine for 6 years now (except the wiperparking) :-?
... the wiring diagram of the models with alternator doesn't show a control box

What I would like to know:
- not having a control box, should I be worried?
- why should the wiper motor and switch earthed on the control box?

Thanks for the help

Well, if your wiper motor works ok then an alternative path has
been wired in to chassis. The original wiring went from terminal
E on the control box into the wiring loom running down towards
the starter motor and then emerged a little lower where it was
earthed to the bulkhead under a bolt head behind the wiring loom.
The rule is if all is working for petes sake leave it alone! Why should
it be earthed that way...because thats the way they did it.

The reason the control box is missing is becasue you've got an alternator. These have internal controls and don't need the box. Some people leave the box in place as a glorified connector block, others remove it. As said before, E = earth, ant earth point will do. Also remember that with an alternator it will be negative earth.
