Converting to Halogen

I am thinking of changing my headlights to Halogen ones and have a few questions:
-Which should I go for and where from?
-I have the non-sealed beam units fitted at the moment and what exactly would the kit replace, the glass, the bowl or what?
-How is the new units held in?
Any pictures or answers would be great, thanks
Stephen

Hello Stephen,

if you don't have sealed beams fitted, are you sure that they are not halogen lamps already?

Well the bulbs are bayonet I think. The fitting on the bottom screws in to the bowl. Do you need pics?

There are two types of halogen units being sold: flat front lenses and the more curved Wipac units that better match the originals. Both are 7 inch units and a straightforward swap for any other standard 7 inch light. You can get them with or without pilot (side) lights. The new lens unit mounts in the same rim as the old unit. If you have a bayonet bulb, then you will need to change the connector - buy a pair of headlamp harnesses as well as the light units. In my experience, the Wipac units are worth the extra money.

Helpful! Thanks. Any chance of some photos of the back of the unit so I can see what and where to change?

The best Halogen headlights for the price are Wipac Quadoptics. The kit will supply the lenses and bulbs.
Chances are your headlight bowls will be rusty so buy a pair of plastic bowls and rubber seals. You will also need the wiring plugs to attach to the bulbs and enough wire and and connectors to join onto your existing wiring. Provided your wiring is in reasonable condition you will not have to upgrade it

You can just use Lucar connectors - but best to use a proper connector block. I suggest you sort out the engine first though....... No point having halogen lamps on a car that won't GO!
