£2000 is a bit of a stretch of my budget, I was just wondering what people though of it:

Seems like the only worries are panel alignment and smokey engine... How easy would it be to fit the panels do you recon?
Not so sure about it - but its really close so it might be worth a look.
Thanks!

Ask for some pictures of the underside! The top looks quite nice except the gap between door and front wing closes at the bottom- could just be panel fitment, and the bottom of the wing needs to be moved forwards, or could be more serious.
Ask them if they would sell the car with 12 months MOT.

If it's close you need to take a look, not rely on what the seller says.
"all welding done" sounds great, but to what standard, MOT or concours?

No harm looking - but as above, don't even consider it with that short MOT. It needs a NEW MOT.. The cracked rear wing suggests fiberglass. Not a good sign..... And smoky engine is what it is - it will need a rebore etc, so budget £4/500 for that. I wouldn't go much beyond the current £1300 bid for the car - and then ONLY with NEW MOT.....

Thanks for your advice everyone.
The guy said he didn't want to put it through the MOT, so I think I might steer clear. Might go see a car irmscher is selling soon though... How hard is it to replace fibreglass wings, are steel ones hard to get hold of/expensive? edit: and are the new steel wings any good? They don't seem to expensive ~£70 each

If it's not far away go and have a look and offer him a grand for it, as long as it's OK.
With that attitude he's unlikely to sell it.
What have you got to lose?

The fact he doesn't want to MOT it has to be indicitive of something as a full ticket would boost the value significantly. It does look fairly tidy but the panel allignment sends alarm bells ringing - of course without seeing the car its impossible to really say whats going on, it might be a really good car.....

You may both be right, but we are all just speculating,
Until someone actually looks at the car and evaluates it for what is is, without listening to how the owner sees it, we are all in the dark.
