rear drum/half shaft removal
Hello all, I have a spare rear axle which i have aquired which hasnt long had new shoes and cylinders, my cars rear axle seems fine but the brakes were removed many years ago. Can the brake drum and half shafts etc be removed as one unit and swopped into my axle on the car? Im presuming the halfshaft has to come out to remove the back plate? I will fit new wheelbearings and seals whilst im at it.

Yes - you can pull the brake drum off, yank the half shaft, remove the hub and then remove the backplate with brakes complete - and swap to your car. You MUST make sure left half shaft is only used on the left side of the car ie don't mix them up. I wouldn't change bearings or seals.......they last for years and years......

Are you saying that you're running w/only front brakes? No rear brakes? Scary, to say the least.my cars rear axle seems fine but the brakes were removed many years ago.
