To hone or not to hone

Post by win »

Hi
Is it better to hone the cylinders before fitting new rings, I sure I read somewhere, honing should only be done on re-bores.

You should 'glaze bust' the bores- and remove any obvious 'lip' near the top of the bores. I use emery paper and work it up and down the bores twisting right and left - to get the classic 45 degree cross-hatch pattern - after rubbing away the ridge of course. Obviously important to get rid of ALL the emery bits before building up the engine.......
