24 hour deadline, help needed!!

hi.

long story this but be as quick as I can!

my names Scott and im originally from Liverpool.

back in 1996 I bought my first car from a mmoc member in Southport ..a green converted split screen moggy for £1600, which at the time was registered LFR 673. i loved the car and polished it, but really didn’t appreciate what i had, and never kept on top of the rust repairs. Being so young, a reg number dealer then stopped me and offered me £400 for the plate, which i took  and it went onto a none dating reg number, which i now cant remember. it failed its mot and i moth balled the moggy in my garage thinking i would never sell it and get round to restoring it.

about 7 years ago i lost my garage where i kept it after loosing my dad so sold it via ebay for about £400. After mourning my father i just let it go and never asked any details from the buyer as i bought the car with my dad and just wanted rid at the time, which i always regretted.

forward to tonight and now with my own family im searching for a moggy so i can do the same things i did with my dad. whilst on ebay i see a moggy for sale with less than 24 hours to go. the twist now being i think its my old one, now sporting the new reg "ESL 455". my heart says im 80% sure its mine, location of a mmoc sticker, colour, indicator switch, radio, but i just don’t know if it is.

ive asked the seller for the chassis number and waiting for reply but if i get it does anyone know how i could possibly check the reg numbers against any data base the club might hold to see if it is my car?

would really appreciate any help prior to the auction finishing. ...21 hours and counting.

if you use mytextcheck they will tell you what the old reg was if it was changed, i used this when i brought my moggy (just to find out a bit more about it) and it told me the old reg before it was changed. umm it cost three quid ( i think) but might be of some help. best of luck

at the end of the three messages it has a plate checker seen as it didnt work for you i thought that i would try it for the ebay moggy. unfortunately it says that information suggests that the plate has been on the car since the date of first registration. if you want to try it for yourself you text "checkp (and the registration)" to 83600. costs a £1.50 though. still looks like a nice car to start off with.

I hope this is the car you are looking for, but you need some kind of guarantee it is his/hers to sell.

yeah i agree. ive seen more bits that convince me its mine, such as the badge bar with the spot lights and the radio ariel mounted on the a post. Hes not put on the listing its minus log book at the mo, so unsure how a new buyer would react turning up on spec without the log book not being supplied and it not stating that on the listing, but im pretty sure hes genuine.

If you can get the log book number a HPI check from http://www.hpicheck.com/ for £25 will tell you if there was a plate change.

You also get free insurance for three days to collect the car if you buy the car you got HPI'd.

The log book missing bit could be your saviour and the current bidders may cry off.

1) Be prepared to make him an offer he can't refuse if you really want this car. I've done it with a Mini I wanted, I wanted a particular Mini and had to go the extra mile to get it.

2) He really needs to find that log book... the HPI check insist on the following:

Vin/chassis number.
Current Mileage.
V5 registration serial number.
V5 registration document issue date.

I'd be a bit suspicious buying a car with no V5, this could well be the same car, but on another cars ID.

It states that the V5 is present on the ad.

Registration letters ASL to YSL were issued on age related plates between Jan 99 and Dec 2000 so it had a registraion transfer during that period and the current ESL number was allocated to it then. Probably ealier inthe period as its a 'E'.

Anyway, it may help determine that it has been reregistered and when...
by the way, the DVLA charge £25 for a replacement for a lost V5 which you could reasonably expect the seller to fund by deducting it from the sale price if he's lost it. Just a thought...

just spoke to him. he seems a really genuine guy and hopefully if he can supply some more info tomorrow and we will speak again. i doubt it would be another i.d on my old car. when i sold it, it needed sheds loads of welding, and the front of the car was only held to the rest of the car by the floor pan as the sills had rotted so badly on each side. it would have been easier to steal a good car than my one.

...just got to try and cobbel together some money now, .....some how!!
