So given the nice weather I decided to start swearing at our Moggie again.
Noticed that the Fuel pipe from the Pump to the Carb was looking a little ropey and having a bit left over from a small job I did on the Landrover decided to change it.
When the car was restarted the Carb end appeared to leak horribly, After alot of buzzarding I realised that it was not leaking at all but that petrol was coming out of the float chamber vent.
I took the top off the float chamber and drained out all the fuel/water/rust and assorted scrapiron. I cleaned it all and the float appeared to be intact. When blown with my mouth the float seemed to be cutting off the supply of petrol to the chamber.
I refitted the float and let pump work for two minetes. It ticked then stopped and there was no leak.
I started the car let it idle for a couple of mins, Again OK.
What I would like to know is, Is this a one off or is it a sympton of a impending doom for the float valve ?
It's a 1969 Minor 1000 BTW
Float Chamber A bit Odd ..

Nothing to worry about now the cut off valve is clear of the bit of dirt left in your new fuel hose.
If the needle is held off the seat (in the cut off valve), the float chamber will flood & fuel will come out of the vent - just as you described.
The piece stuck in the valve probably fell out when you removed the float chamber top.

leak
Sounds as though you were lucky. If you noticed any sign of
a ridge on the float needle then take it as a timely reminder and
order yourself a float needle and housing.
