I am intending to fit a new roof on my convertible (1962). I am receiving conflicting advice on which type of material to use, some say double duck, others mohair and even vinyl. advice please.
The car is in good condition and I want to fit a reasonable quality and durable roof. The roof spends 90% of the time folded down, the car is garaged but used year round.

We fitted a navy blue mohair to my '63 Convertible. Very pleased with the quality/fit. Yes, it was expensive but it looks really good, and is very cosy inside - no draughts.

I do suggest the hood should be UP when the car is in the garage - otherwise it will get horribly creased. The mohair always looks good - and I suggest dark colours look very much better than light......

as you say roy it certainly is not good for the plastic window to be folded all the time or you will get creases.. and eventually cracks when you do need to pull the hood up.

Does the window unzip on the Minor hood? I keep the window of my TR7 hood lying flat (it unzips) - and even when I am forced to put the hood up (by SWMBO) - I leave the window unzipped unless extreme rain is encountered. As long as the car is moving - it's fine !

Vinyl hoods are much, much easier to keep clean. My convertible had a cream double duck hood fitted when I bought it; and even though it had hardly been used, all the dirt showed up and it did look quite scruffy. I have since fitted a cream everflex vinyl hood which looks a lot better, and obviously wipes down clean.
The only thing to be aware of with vinyl hoods is, do make sure the sticks aren't digging into the hood once it's folded down. It's not an issue with thicker and tougher mohair hoods, but the sticks can dig in and cut the vinyl if it's not tucked out of the way.
