Brake shoe "pull off" tension springs

I'm in the process of renewing my front brake shoes. (1098cc, 8" drums).
I didn't note which way round the springs were originally fitted. There is a long and shorter coil on each spring. Which way round should the springs fit, or doesn't it matter? Answer would be appreciated.

The longer coil runs along the main body of the wheel cylinder, with the shorter coil towards the opening end.

Les, thanks for that. I failed one of the most important, fundamental rules, to make a mental note, draw a sketch or even take a photograph BEFORE taking anything apart!!!

hello T72,
Excuse me sort of 'highjacking' this thread, but before the site went down you mentioned a picture in the club mag showing incorrectly fitted brake shoes, I've been trying to find this item for quite a while now, could you please tell me the issue it was in and the page number.
