front break cylinders

Post by guymcc »

evening all..

I've got through the post the four brake cylinders that I need, they were ordered as Lockheed, but they have come as ap racing ones, and the problem is they have different part numbers so I don't know which is which.

The numbers on the boxes says 3500P and 35001P, ive done a google search but with little success so thought I'd turn to the font of knowledge that is here!!

Another one while we are at it... The workshop manual says that the copper brake hose pipe between the cylinders should be connected over the top, although when i took my old ones off the pipe ran underneath the hub? From what I can tell if I put the cylinders on the way they came off then the pipe can only go underneath. Any thoughts???

TIA :D :D

Underneath is fine - don't ever use 'copper' - and if the cylinders are not the SAME as the ones you have taken off - contact the supplier.

Slight mistake in typing... they are caparo ap braking cylinders so off to do a search for that..
By my reckoning if the piping goes over the top then the bleed nipple must be facing downwards! I think I will put them back the way it was ie pipe underneath. If its not made from copper what is made of?

Use Kunifer - NOT copper.

Over the top risks a trapped air bubble = soggy pedal. Below is fine.

Just let people know...

I've put the joining pipe on underneath, put the cylinders on and couldn't see a way to put the pipe over the top without having the bleed nipple on facing down! Or for that matter the pipe being the wrong shape!

So i'm happy.

Getting there with the brake rebuild!!! :D :D

Got to check the level in the master cylinder, re-seal the offside back axle and top up/check the axle fluid level. Then got to put cylinders on the rears, shoes all round and reconnect the had brake and adjust everything before bleeding!!

What fun!! Not sure the other half is so keen on the oily hands and clothes coming back in from the garage though! oh well! :D :D
