Door lock woes

Post by markkelsall »

Hello,

I have just bought a '65 M Minor van, which I intend to use for my gardening business, but which has a few 'issues' that need sorting.

One of these is the passenger door lock i.e. even if I move the interior opening handle fwd/towards the dash (which should lock the car?) it is still possible to open the door with the outside handle.

Any help would be appreciated!

Does it not have the little locking catch at the rear edge of the door - as per 2-door saloons/travs? maybe not - since the van has 4-door front doors - but just a suggestion!

Yes, pushing forward should lock the exterior handle. There is a bar which is attached to the handle which may noy be connected anymore. Take off the door panel and have a look.....

Yes, I have had the panel off and the indoor lever is still all attached to the exterior handle by the long rod you mention. Might there be something amiss in the lever mechanism?

The operating action of the lever should raise and lower a locking pin which passes through the mechanism of the exterior door handle. Effectively attaching and detaching the handle to the actual door lock.

I know this is a very old thread but I'm having the exact opposite problem with the pick up I'm restoring.
Whenever I close the door a bit hard it appears something pulls on the lever and the door locks itself from the inside, making unlocking with the key impossible.

I'm still in the restoration process so fortunately the quarterlight wasn't installed yet and I could reach in to pull the lever, but this could be a serious problem in the long run.
