Crankshaft starter dog - spanner

Can anyone tell me if a 1 5/16", 1/2" square drive deep impact socket will fit on the crankshaft pulley bolt or will it foul on the starter dog before engaging? Something like this:

Failing that it looks like I'm going to have to invest in a standard spanner and hope I can apply sufficient torque to get the bolt out.

Deep is good, but I can't say if it will be deep enough.
I use a large ring spanner and the power of the starter motor to undo these.

I've just invested in a large adjustable spanner to do it by your method. I hope it comes off easily enough!

A large adjustable or even stillsons (wrap a bit of emery around to protect the dog) - and rest on the chassis leg - and jab the starter!

I'd stand it off an inch to give it some momentum, however give some thought to how you will get it tight enough when it goes back together.
Any suggestions Roy?

I've always just pulled it up hard as I can - with a spot of Loctite on the thread.

Near side chassis leg I presume?
Hmm getting it tight again could be an issue. I'll see if I can get it off first!

It doesn't need to be all that tight - don't worry.

I know that you are going to use a "large adjustable spanner", but to answer your original question:
"Can anyone tell me if a 1 5/16", 1/2" square drive deep impact socket will fit on the crankshaft pulley bolt or will it foul on the starter dog before engaging? "
You have to look into the socket, not all deep sockets are broached the same, some have the hex or double-hex most of the way down, while on some it only goes down a short distance.
At least w/the adjustable spanner you can use it for other things also.
