Courtesy light wiring.

Hi all,

My courtesy light in the cab didn't work, then I realised the springs in the switches had died, and the plumb who painted the car, painted the switches into the A-pillars... :o

Bought 2 new ones and presto! The Drivers door operates the light now, however the passenger door does not. On fishing behind the N/S glovebox, I found the wire (Brown with black stripe) was flapping around connected to nothing! Unfortunately I can't find anywhere within reach that the bullet connector in the end would fit into.
Does anyone know where it should connect? Or at least what colour wires it pushes into? Does it go behind the dash, or into the engine bay?

Cheers,
Tom.

Hello Tom,

the brown\black wire should go to the passenger door switch in the A post. If you earth it, the interior light should light up?
Basically the interior light is permanently live and works when either door is opened or the switch in the light unit is operated.

Alec, I believe Tom is looking for the wire that connects behind the dash!

Tom, if you remove the left hand glove box liner you should find the wire.

Indeed I am! Got the one connected to the door switch fine.

As it's a switched earth, is the wire supposed to go up the a-pillar and into the head lining for the light to work? I've looked behind the passenger glovebox and the only wires I have come from the fuel pump and N/S front lights (I believe). The Drivers side, however, is a veritable birds nest!

According to the diagram the purple/black wires from each door switch join and pass through a windscreen pillar to the interior lamp which also has a purple wire from the fuse box. Your loose wire should probably connect to a bullet connector on the other wire

Excllent, so now all I need to know is how to drop the headlining! Or should I start a new thread for that?

Hello Tom,

before you do that have another close look at the loom, there may be a short wire with a bullet on. Failing that I seem to remember that the wires for the light go up the drivers side pillar, so have a look in that area under the dash. You can connect the passenger side switch to the drivers side switch, with a short length of wire, which should be accessible without removing the headlining.
