Has anyone noticed just how much the prices of Minis for sale have risen lately? For the sort of money that reasonable on the road cars went for a while ago all you get now are cars needing major work. I'd go as far as saying that Minis go for more than Minors now and are certainly a rarer sight on the road, at least round here.

Minis have long been overpriced, in my opinion. They're great little cars and I'd love to own one some day, but they compare badly in terms of value for money with Minors these days. Most of the survivors aren't tax exempt, either, and unfortunately quite a few seem to sport rather dubious looking modifications.

I agree.. I have a Mini myself, the huge increase in price is the fact so many are being broken for spares by youngsters (the buy two or three and make one attitude). Then give it a seriously over bored engine 8ft wide wheels, whacky racer type exhaust system and fibreglass flip fronts. These cars sell for pittance on the second hand car market, while the rarer none molested ones sell for £3K plus and climbing.

It's quite sad on the Mini forum when you find a topic get started by a youngster saying "guess what I found" then attach a nice picture of a standard mini that perhaps failed the MOT, buy an old MK1 or MK2 Metro.. then announce it's going to be their latest road racer.

Its certainly true that its hard to find a Mini now that hasn't been ruined! They are going the same way as Beetles and look at the state of most of those!

lets just hope it doesn't happen to our beloved moggies!

I have noticed a massive increase in the prices of minis, but it seems to be happening to many classics.

The frogeye, my friend is into them, and at the begining of the year you could pick up a decent on for 6-7 grand, but now some seem to be going for over 10 grand

beetles have seem to have gone up, Camper vans, MG midgets, and others.

Or there is another perspective.... perhaps the baby boomers are hitting 40 and going through a mid life crisis that insists they buy a classic!

The baby boom was over 60 years ago!!

there was a mini boom in 1970 ish? Perhaps not the post war big baby boom.

The mini boom started about '63 with the introduction of the 1071 's' model.

It may be more to do with fuel economy - and the practicalities of getting Insurance for a teenager. Unfortunately - the 'soup up a Mini' thing is indeed all to prevalent, but it's also happened on here a few times recently with way too over ambitious 'projects' - with unfortunate (and all too predictable) results.

Indeed it is - until the head gasket blows......

They do seem prone to head gasket failures if the maintenance has been neglected, just like TR7s and Stags 30 years ago. Some things never change!

I still want one though..
