Have you completed FBHVC's 2011 survey yet?

If you haven't, please go to http://www.fbhvc.co.uk/2011-survey and spend quarter of an hour or so doing your bit to help protect your right to use your minor on the road whenever you wish.

Why should I? Because if FBHVC can't show how important and valuable the historic vehicle movement in this country is, its ability to lobby on our - your - behalf is diminished. The more you do and the more you spend on your hobby, the more important it is for you to complete the survey (which can be completed anonymously) - and the more you have to lose if FBHVC was ever to fail 'to uphold the freedom' to use old vehicles.

Done.

It is trying to argue that the old car industry is worth £XXXX millions per year.

Done. Seemed a bit silly/presumptious having a 'how many miles have you done in the last 12 months' and having lots of small fields, then just 'over 3000', and then no box saying 'if over 3000, how many?' I'm sure a lot of people do way more than 3000!

Agree about the mileage bit. I use a classic car to equally share motoring duties with my modern so they share the 6000-7000 I do a year.

I've filled mine in. Let's hope it'll encourage the FBHVC to realise that many people use low-value, non-pristine classics as their everyday cars.

Agreed with Chris above, some of the fields do seem a little odd. The 'value' field seemed very strange to me, having one category for 'under £10,000', then others going up to £100k, when surely the majority of classic vehicles are in the former category. Likewise the mileage field was a bit odd having specific categories for those who do very few miles, but none for those who do lots. This means my survey response is very vague, given that my car is worth less than 1/10th of the minimum value, yet does more than 3x the maximum mileage.

On the plus side, it's good to see a question about future classics included. This at least hints that the they realise that most classics were once old bangers, and that legislation designed to clamp down on said cars would rob us of the classics of the future.

Don't forget that the FBHVC represent all historic vehicles - including agricultural, commercial, military, motorbikes & steam - not just cars, so the survey has to encompass a wide range of vehicles. Probably why some of the answers provided might seem a bit 'odd' or non - specific to the average classic car owner. Likewise, I'm sure that they probably seem just as odd or non-specific to the average traction engine owner :D
