What happened to my Beige 1955 Series II MM - Reg RVU 72?

Post by Steve Newton »

I really hope that somebody can help me to find out what happened to my 1955 803cc MM series II 4 Door Saloon (Beige bodywork with Red leather interior) Reg No. RVU 72. I bought it in 1977 when I was 16 (I'm now 50). It was my first ever car and was a great source of pleasure to me. I sold it locally (Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire) a few years later to help towards a deposit for my first house. I have been trying to locate it again here over the past few months and have managed to find the second subsequent owner after I sold the car. Unfortunately he cannot recall what happened after that (probably in the mid 80's / early 90's). I still have a copy of the original old Registration Book with the Chassis No. FAF11/358913 and Engine No. 210467 clearly marked on it. The vehicle was first registered in the name of The General Electric Co Ltd, Manchester 3, on 1st August 1955. I have contacted the DVLA using form V888 requesting information from their records for RVU 72 but they say that they are unable to provide it. A subsequent call to the DVLA indicated that no records exist with them for RVU 72. Any information or guidance would be greatly appreciated - Many thanks for reading this message. Afraid it does sound like it was most likely scrapped!

Although if you are very lucky, it may be sitting in a garage or shed somewhere... :-?

There was an article on Minor Matters last year (July/August) where a member had paid for info from the DVLA and researched the numbers of Minors either registered as taxed or on SORN on the DVLA database within the previous 12 months. The figures won't include Minors registered abroad or not recorded on DVLA records but during 2009/10 there were a total of 25,504 cars and 1,506 LCV's falling into either category (487 pickups, of which 46 were built in 1970).

The survival rates vary from year to year. For example, 34.7% of 1971 built cars survived but only 0.7% of 1949 built cars. The survival rate for LCV's ranges from 0.2% to 2.4%.

Not the same car but probably as close as you'll get.

Think the reg is an age related plate.

Incidently the 11 you quoted in the car number indicates the paint was originally black synthetic.
