Has anyone ever tried these newfangled hvlp electric sprayers ? I dont mean the ones you connect to a hoover - been there done that (and it worked !)
I mean the proper made for the job electric spray guns, 1000w motors etc... they're around £60 - £120

As both my compressor & my trusty gun are up for the knackers yard I wondered if I should give this a go...

Any thoughts ?

Apparently its Victoriana blue...... popular in Victorian bathrooms & kitchens...... She saw some tiles in Focus DIY and that was it !

Well I did some sums.......
Cheap compressor & really horrible gun from screwfix is about £100. its ungainly, can't be carried around very easily, makes loads of noise (as its small and is nearly always running when painting) and is very limited on what can be sprayed without buying more guns / nozzles / bits (at about £45 a go)

is £70, can use all kinds of paints as its supplied with various nozzles. It light enough to carry about. Quieter than a compressor AND I can paint the house, fence, shed and dog with it !

So, I suspect I've persuaded myself

my thoughts are that a HVLP set will only spray, but a compressor gives the opportunity to use so many other tools so is far more versatile, but at a higher cost of course.

For the same price as that HVLP you should be able to get an 8cfm compressoor off e-bay. If you have room for the real thing, I would go for it. But to each his own ;-)

Jim that looks quite a reasonable piece of kit if I remember correctly Practical Classics did an article on sprayguns last year but I cant remember the outcome I will see if I can find it, although that Earlex ad looks good if you buy one let us know how you get on.
Jim do you still need a horn push for the banjo steering as I know soneone with a spare.

It was the one with the lotus cortina on the front..... I have it, but at home (and i know where it is ;) )

I've got it somewhere too... the outcome was one was a best buy, one was budget buy..... No seriously I'll try to look it out too. Must have it somewhere. I know they said that you could get a reasonable finish but not as good as with the real mccoy & also that more work would be involved in flatting back & cutting the paint...

Well gents... I got it £69 from Argos !!

I have given it a little audition with some fence paint (really thick orrible splodgy redish stuff) thinking it would struggle.

No probs at all..... setup is minimal, gun is excellent, no spitting, spluttering or any of the funny tricks I used to end up getting with a 'normal' high pressure gun..... only DON'T undo the paint pot when the gun's running it gets VERY VERY messy !

So far I'm impressed !!!!

I just happen to have some fibreglass wings that need a coat of paint this weekend

Give us feedback on what its like, I might get one or a compressor because then i will be able to sand blast too...... (only small stuff)

Will do mate.... I chose this coz' I had other uses for it too ! Painting an entire 3 bed extended house (outside) ..... A 35' long garage......About 35 6' fence panels.... a shed (wooden) and a shed (trafalgar blue) !!!!!! Apparently I can spray my hall, landing & stairs as well - which is nice ;) The only decision is fence paint orange or Victorian Privvy blue for the landing ?

Oh and by the way Matt..... I'm having one dog pale grey and the other purple possibly with an airbrush design on her left flank

Jim, I would be interested to know how it goes as well - the previous owner of my house thought it would be clever to paint over the pebbledash (DOH! ).

Plus, hopefully I'll be spraying some of the panels on my traveller this year.

Ive got a whole bodyshell to do.....

my theory at the moment is that I will do it, then if it looks nasty i will strip it back and get it done proffessionlly!

Kevin... its quite a useless thing really.... full to the brim with essential kit & stuff 'that will come in handy'

In short a 35' long, 7' wide pile of STUFF !!
I couldn't get a car near it, let alone in it
