So after half an hour of web searches I'm still a long way off decoding my engine number...
It is:
10V/189E/H36872
I've ascertained that 10V means either Morris 1000 Van, or Vanden Plas 1100 - As Mine's a traveller does that mean it's had a transplant at some point?
The 'E' I have no idea about...
The 'H' I reckon means high compression?
None of this is really what I wanted to know though... from earlier research I learned there was a strong and a weak crank version of the 1098 engine, and I was just wondering which I have!
Cheers,
Tom.

Re: Engine codes again...
The first number (in the case of a 1098cc engine, the '10') relates to the capacity, in this case indicating that it's between 1000 and 1099cc. Accordingly 948cc engines start with a '9', as will the 998s fitted to other BMC/BL vehicles.
'H' indicates high compression.
'H' indicates high compression.

Re: Engine codes again...
Hi Tom
I have a 1970 Trav and it also has a 10V motor.
I must have found the same info as you -- a van or vanden plas motor, but then I found further information that indicated that 10V is a late version of the 1098 (I can't remember where I found it though).
I think the V probably relates to the later ventilation system. You will no doubt find that you have a sealed rocker cover and a vent from the timing case.
I hope this helps.
