I'm not sure if this can be classified as body work, but here goes. I need to replace the outside rear driver's side rubber window seal on my 1957 two door saloon. I have never done this before, so before I order the replacement and start ripping the old one out could some one tell me if it is simply a case of pulling out the old one and pushing in the new? Is there a special technique to doing it and do I need to apply some kind of adhesive when I fit the new one? Thanks in anticipation.

If you are renewing it I would carefully cut away the old one with a stanley knife, clean the window very carefull especailly around the edges and the body edge as well. Fit the new seal to the glass and then put a peice of thick cord in the gap thats holds to the body. The window is refitted from inside the car so you will need a willing helper inside holding it in place! Start to edge the new seal over the body, probably best at the back corner as this would be the hardest to work in place with the string. Once you have it started you shoud be able to pull into place with the string. Dont forget to replace the metal clips that help hold it in place before trying to put the glass back in.

If the new seal is a good tight fit which it should be you wont need sealant.

We use a length of washing line - the type that's cord sleeved in a plastic tube usually brightly coloured. This saves the string cutting into the rubber. Take it slowly and use a steady force when pulling the line.

These CLIPS what are they like and do they go under seal and bend up on inside,sorry if this is dumb question but I cant seem to get any infomation on them.

They fit onto the metal edge of the car, the rubber then goes on and the clips are folded up from behind (inside the car) to keep the glass from being pushed in.

If they fold over then they would be visible from inside.Just folded up against rubber seal,is thisright.Thanks for help.
