Thought I'd ask everyone's advice on painting.

Evening all (or really almost morning in the British Isles),
I'd like to ask your advice on paint (per the title). It's my opinion that Mog needs a paint job. However, limiting factors keep arising, for instance:
1. Nitrocellulosic lacquers, which I believe is what sort of paint we (the 'board) usually cite as preferable and fully Minory, are not commercially available in my area; all they seem to sell is two-pack, which I REFUSE to use (cyanide scares me, sorry, and it looks terrible on an old car). A very nice-looking company in New Jersey (http://www.hiberniaautorestorers.com/ni ... quers.html) does them for what strikes me as an equitable price, and would ship to Missouri.
2. I do not have easy or inexpensive access to a good-capacity compressor or spray gun.
3. I am running out of time. University restarts before 1 September -- so I have roughly ninety days to finish structure welding and grinding, seal the underside, clean and service all the parts, and figure out how the devil it all goes back together. Adding learning how to paint, removing the paint currently on Mog, building the primer substrate, and doing the paintwork makes the schedule fiendishly difficult.

So why do I want to paint? The easiest answer, aside from that it'd be fun and would be a great finish to what's been a total restoration, is that I'd have to paint it sometime and the easiest time is now, when the car is already disassembled completely. (The only removable things left on the car are the front dampers.)

So what should I do, in your sage opinions? I've been reading earlier threads on painting all evening and haven't come up with an answer yet...

read this http://www.hse.gov.uk/mvr/issues/isocyanate.htm it may help .its the misting that causes asthma but you can use a brush or roller to quite good effect and will cause you no health risk,other have used it with a roller and say that the finish is quite acceptable

If you can get the materials, use the "Nitro Cellulose laquer" paint and thinners. Cellulose is a much easier and safer paint system to use by the amateur restorer.

Hire a compressor and spray gun if you can. Or if not, see if you can get spray cans made up by a local paint suppliers.

Spray cans might work for you, I belive you can get quite resonable results with them. Try getting a baulk order mixed up in a spray shop otherwise you may end up with them not matching. you may also be able to get a discount if you order a lot.
