Hi all
Just getting round to putting the stripes back on my bonnet and door. I'm thinking of tape because hands not steady enough and any ideas for supplier. What colour should the stripes be on a 1954 Claredon Grey Traveller?

Originals were done freehand at the factory. Use masking tape to guide the paint by all means - but don't use 'tape' as the colour line ! I believe it would be red on Clarendon Grey. Little Humbrol tin of paint is ideal for the job.

You can get "coach line" masking tape. It comes on a roll and is in 3 sections. Put the tape on, peel off the middle section, paint the gap then remove the outer 2 bits of tape. Job done.

The new tape coach lines are virtually indistinguishable from the painted ones, not like the old stuff, which was pretty awful!

probably a bit extravagant for just one car, but might be worth seeing if anywhere hires them

Proper paint every time, just use lining tape and a flame red aerosol and brush from Halfords. The second side always looks better than the first, but stood a few feet away it looks dead cool!

Yea just mask it off with tape, and paint inbetween. Really sets the car off well.

Thanks for the comments. I went on the route of tape (hands not steady enough!) Result seems okay in fact I am quite pleased with the result and I will let you know if it comes off.

i used tape on my traveller 10+ years ago, and it is still stuck solid, provided you follow the instructions you will be fine.

One of our members has just fitted tape to his restoration and I would defy the average person to tell the difference!

Note this stuff is not like the old tapes like the factories used on cars in the 70's and 80's. It is extremely thin with no noticeable "edge". While I personally use paint between masking I think this is an ideal solution for anyone wanting a quick and simple job.

I am thinking of doing my lines on my traveller in Empire Green, any ideas of the colour, I am sure it was an off white or a cream, but that was over 20 years ago! I will try the masking tape option.

Yes I believe it was cream for empire green, probably old english white will be fine.
