Morris Minor Owners Club

Hi, this is my new 1967 Morris 1000, two door - but what is the colour? The chap I bought it off says it had been Trafalgar blue but the previous owner had painted it... but ALL the paint matches, even under the dash etc... which makes me think it might be the original colour... what do you think? I need to try and find out soon so as to get touch up paint

It looks like trafalgar blue to me. Trouble is there are two shades of trafalgar blue so you might have trouble getting an exact match unless you take a sample of the paint (glovebox lid etc) to somewhere that mixes auto paint to order. Both shades have the same paint code (BU37) but one has a hint of green in it.

Might be wrong, but that colour looks very similar to my Pick-up and that is Teal Blue.[frame][/frame]

From what the OP says the colour under the dashboard matches the exterior paint, and teal blue was never a standard colour on saloons. There's always a possibility that the car was fully resprayed in teal blue at some point though. As already suggested, best to take a sample of the paint to a supplier and get paint mixed to order to guarantee a good match. Most Minor suppliers sell touch up paints for around a fiver though so if you only need a small quantity of paint it might be worth getting one of these in trafalger blue to see whether it matches.

Looks like Trafalgar blue to me too. BU37 (1969) = Morris Minor. BU (1971) = Morris 1100 (Pininfarina shape)Trafalgar Blue. It's the 1969 colour you need.

Hi, no problem on the hijack - myself and my wife thought teal blue as well... I might order a teal blue can, and use it as a sort of base coat to see how well it matches, and then if it doesn't progress to the second trafalgar blue

Do these colours require a lacquer top coat?

I've just done some paint touch-up on the Pick-up using spray cans from ESM. The finish was ok but a top-coat of lacquer (Halfords) really made it shine.

You could also flat, polish, compound & wax rather than use lacquer (see here for details: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f= ... it=lacquer) but your choice really
