welding

Post by sharky1 »

I am restoring a traveller to original condition, now it is stripped so i have taken it to the expert for welding, the first thing he noticed was that the floor had been as he put it sandwiched a plate covering metal with air in between, this he said is really bad as it condensates inside and in a couple of years would be full of rust, he said he would have to remove the full floor, now its not about money as he is my friend and wont charge the earth, the point is when having your car welded make sure they cut away the old and weld only in the area that has been cut away.

This happened on my Minor as well. Some former owner had, instead of cutting out the original rotting floor and replacing it with new metal properly butt-welded, simply riveted new sheet metal over it. The new floor wasn't strong and didn't last for longer than a few years, as it became one big rust trap. So it's been lots of work for me...but almost done.........
