Hi there,

When I press the floor switch to put on the main beam the headlights go out completely.

Also the fuel gauge doesnt go above half full even thought I have filled George up.

Anyone has any ideas about either problem?

Julie

Oh I forgot to say that there is a strange slow ticking noise coming from somewhere in the front when the engine is running.

I have been trying to remember if this is normal (I had a Traveller many years ago) but I can't remember!!!

You either have a loose connection between the dipswitch and the next bullet connector, trace the blue/white cable, or the dipswitch is knackered. Connect the blue feed cable to the blue/white main beam cable and if the main beam works then it is the dipswitch.
The ticking is the fuel pump, be worried if you can't hear it

Maybe just both bulbs have failed on the main beam filaments - does the little blue warning light come on ? But as above - it's much more likely to be a loose connection.

Here's another possible explanation: If you have added under-pad to the carpets to try to make it quieter you may not be able to depress the switch all the way. The dip-switch on Millicent is working fine after 61 years but if the carpets get bunched up a bit I really have to stomp on it! Try it with the carpet moved out of the way to see if you get a nice clean "CLICK".

Thankyou one and all,

I shall have a look at the wires. The blue light does come on.

Ahhh - well the dip switch is working ok. Check the wiring towards the front of the car - the blue/white wire is the one you are interested in...

Thank you bmc,

I will print out Louise's wiring diagram to help me. I need to have a good study of it to familiarise myself with all the wiring.

Lots to do, so little time!!!!

It's actually Barry's diagram - Louise just hosts it! And yes - well worth having a copy in the car - laminate it for a longer life....
