Hi,

Does anybody know if theres a bolt on alternative for the H1 carb on a sidevalve?
There's no decent overflow,if the floating bowl fails, fuel is squirting all over the place onto a hot engine.

It's the best carb for the duty - you can add an overflow pipe - I'm sure the twin H1s I have ex MkI Sprite have overflows..... But float overflow should be a rare and unusual occurrence - indicating some preventive maintenance required!

The float lever needs to be set with a 7/16 bar (or drill bit) beween the float lever and the lid of the bowl.
If there is an alternative carb, let me know. I have a couple of H1s and H2s to fit if if I can get a suitable inlet manifold. A four branch exhaust would improve things as well.

Would it be possible to fit an H2 instead of the original H1?
Spareparts are more available for the H2.

Anything is possible but it's a different flange. Parts for H1 are not hard to find - much of the H2 stuff will fit I'm sure.

Well,

The brass tube where the jet goes in and the jet adjusting nut screws on, is a bit damaged.
Fuel is dripping out. I'll change the cork washers but if possible but I'd like to replace that tube too.
allmost everything is available to replace except that tube (I guess). So I wondered if I could switch the whole carb with an H2, they are more available secondhand.

I would have thought the jet tube parts from an H2 would be the same ? I believe it's the same 90 thou jet.

Is there room on the H2 mounting flange to drill holes to fit the H1 mounting studs?
If the carb is not leaking at the bottom then I would be wary about disturbing the cork seal

Bore out the ,manifold to 1 1/4" and make a simple adapter plate. BUT - most H2s are designed to be mounted at a steep angle - and the H1 is mounted horizontally - so the adapter would need to include the angle, or use the H1 float on the H2.......
