Thinking of statrting to repair some of the lower sections of the car, I have a narrow garage so would like to get the car as high as possible, not intrested in the roll over jigs,

My thoughts are buy a good quality trolley jack with a good lift height. stands, or have seen these but not sure how practical it is

Doesn't look very sturdy to me........ I certainly wouldn't be going under that.

If the work doesn't involve taking the wheels off then trusty wheel ramps would always be my favourite for doing any decent work under the car. There's very little to go wrong and it gets the car a decent height off the ground.

some people will try and sell anything ( no offence if you are the seller of this marval)

Have 4 axle stands that raise the car to about 3 foot off the ground, would be happy for you to have them on loan, if close to south wales area drop me a PM

If you don't want to lay down under the car I would recommend a good quality car rollover. I agree that I would not want to go under the ebay item!

I'm sure I've seen car rollers with wheels on so the car can be moved while on it's side.
It depends what kind of work you need to do but if it involves grinding or welding it will be a lot nicer and safer with the car on it's side.
In fact you will probably get more done, faster, because it's so unpleasant working in restricted space unable to escape the stuff that will fall on you.

I am sure a car roller would be ideal, but dont you need to remove engine and gearbox to lighten the load.

No, it can be done with the engine and gearbox in. There's a thread running here at the moment discussing this: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=38829

Obviously you will need to take sensible safety precautions to ensure the car is adequately supported.

You don't have to remove the engine and gearbox unless you want to replace a chassis leg or are going to remove so much metal that the shell is weakened.

Clearly the car will be heavier, but you are rolling it, not picking it up so the ground takes most of the weight.

You need to consider if the drive in front of your garage slopes, a "shopping trolley" with a Minor on board could be quite a handful

If money is tight then use a good workshop trolley jack, jack the car up high and use 3 tonne axle stands. These will get the underside of the car a fair way up in the air.
