I recently replied to a wanted advert for a G/box side plate, as I had a spare one I thought that £5-00 inc postage was about right and so did the the guy who wanted it. The plate was well packed with both senders and recipients addresses clearly printed. It turned out that the postage was £2.65 first class. So off went the parcel never to be seen again.
I had kept the receipt and told the PO of the loss, I filled in a loss form and the reply was that they were sorry and gave me my postage back.
The moral to this is SEND IT REGISTERED you are then more likely to get both your postage and the value of the item.

The postal service has too many casual workers

one of our local postman was caught with 3 sacks of opened mail and he appeared in court and got comunity service for 40 hours

The same happened to me when I posted a radiator to the buyer in England. The buyer and myself thought the radiator would never be seen again. It magically turned up 6 weeks later to the buyers address. Good old parcel force !!

unfortunately if you send something that looks like a birthday card registered mail, it is even more likely to 'get stuck in the machine and damaged with it's contents of cash/gift voucher/ ticket mysteriously fallen out'.
I've sent a dozen or so car parts by royal mail / parcel force and never had a problem.
We've had about half a dozen things stolen by royal mail Leamington posties in the last 2 years (including 3 parcels marked as play.com which are of course DVD's and too obvious for the casual postie). 40 hours community service?? tssk
