Mohair. Made from small moes?

Post by RobThomas »

It will soon be time to get the hood and sidescreens etc made. Does anyone have any opinions on material choice? Is Mohair really hard to keep clean? Is vinyl not so nice looking? Do any of the materials shrink? Who makes the best hoods?

Soooooooooooooooooo many questions.

Just fitted a new Mohair to our restored Convertible. Ours supplied by BM. The hood is a good fit, and well made. Went down the M42/M6/M1 yesterday doing a steady 55/60 with a really strong crosswind and had no problems. :D I spent quite a bit of time researching which to get as the prices very a lot. Some vinyls are a lot cheaper than others. They seem very thin and one some you can see all the frame clearly though them. This worried me. I didn't want to fit one and have it rip. Settled on the Mohair as it seemed the strongest as the car is outside all year but covered by a stormforce cover.

Thanks. I need to get lowlight tourer sidescreens made at the same time so need someone to supply the material for them, too. Don Hoods will do the lot in Mohair for just under £700.

If that includes the hood bag as well that's not a bad price. I'm not certain, but they may well make the hoods supplied by Bull. I have a friend in the B'ham Branch who has a hood supplied by Don. They look very similar.

Don Hoods make them in Double Duck with the correct size rear window. They tailor them to fit your car.

And amazingly warm. I couldn't believe it as a friend said when we changed the hood from a vinyl to mohair we'd notice the difference as it would be breezey inside.. I'm very pleasantly surprised. Only trouble is it's gets nice and warm in the sun and my ginger cat things it's a cat hammock so it has to stay covered at all times
