whats the best rust treatment for under my car to convert the rust ready for waxoil or underseal?

You need to get the area back to good clean metal before hitting it with Waxoil or similar. I use a wire wheel on a grinder to clean up the metal then use some panel wipes to make sure the metal is free of dirt, grease etc. I would then use a good etch primer before putting on the waxoil. Hope that helps.

i was thinking more of kurust or similar that you brush onto the rust which then kills it, then after that waxoil or under sealant

Hi, I used Bilt Hamber hydrate 80 with great success and cover the chassis with Dinitrol 4941 underbody wax. A good friend tells me that Dinitrol is used extensively in the Aviation industry so it is well upto the job and Bilt Hamber make products for Marine environments. Hope this helps.

There are quite a few products out there you can use. I have just used a rust converter and then a primer. A top coat and finally waxoil. I've done this in the box section under the kick-boards.
If you can wait a couple of years I'll let you know how this works!!
In the 'Practical classics' mag, they tested various products on bare metal and left it to the elements for a couple of months. Anyway, on the strength of their test I bought the rust converter that they thought best. Rustbuster FE-123. It turns the metal black.
It may be that if you just wax oiled the cavaties every year, this may be more effective. If you put paint on it, perhaps, rust can get unerneath it.

You really must wire brush (knotted wire brush in angle grinder + goggles + ear muffs + face mask) the surfaces to get rid of as much of the 'rust' as possible. Then - brush in rust killer - many are phosphoric acid - and then overcoat with the primer and paint of your choice. Waxoyl etc in the cavities.

Yes, the rust converter will only work on good metal with light surface rust. You have to be brutal with a screwdriver to make sure there is no (penetrating) corrosion, or you will be wasting your time!

The knotted wire brush/angle grinder will reveal all!
