MP3 player type thing - from cigarette lighter?

Is there such a thing as an iPod dock thingy that runs from a cigarette lighter? I really don't want to start cutting bits out of the inside to fit speakers & cd player, plus I don't really have the knowledge to be doing such a thing, so I am after some kind of dock with speakers...

Does that make any sense at all? Technologically minded I am not...!

not sure if there is a thing of which you speak. but i'm pretty sure you can get ipod chargers that plug into cigarette lighters, and you can get mini speakers that plug into the headphone socket. you can get speakers that run off the ipods own battery, or you can get speakers with their own batteries in.

Charger:

Speakers:

I like being awkward :)

I did get some speakers for the player, but they were awful! is 2.2w good?! Big Neg had a dock that runs off batteries, but I think he's taken it to his band practice room (after telling me I could have it! )

I'm so not good at this kind of stuff!!

Easiest way is to use an iPOD adapter from Ebay. I bought one recently- a Belkin one that was £2.99 including postage!
This just powers the iPod, you can then attach it to car stereo with either an old cassette to 3.5mm adapter or a stereo 3.5mm to 3.5mm lead if the stereo has an iPod line input.

If you have no stereo in the car then you may have to use a powered speaker.

My very first "car hifi" years ago consisted of a cassette walkman plugged into a small guitar practise amp- I rigged up a 12volt supply from the cars fusebox to an adapter.

There are many way to skin the proverbial in this case.

What do you have already, if anything?
Radio, radio cassette player, radio CD player or nothing?

Nothing. I don't want to have to cut bits out of the car for speakers etc. I think I may well just get an ipod dock that runs on batteries. At the moment I am using my laptop with iTunes!

you can get little 'portable' speakers that don't need to be fitted into the car, ie, they just sit on the parcel shelf. used to be able to get them with those little battery powered cassette players.--Car Boot maybe? but thats if you fancy actually fitting a radio.

You could always get an inverter to run a mains powered dock to run off the fag lighter 8)

Inverters give a noisey output though. Best run it through a band pass filter
