Door seals

I have just bought a new set of door seals for my 1970 4 door and have a question, are the ends clamped under the sill cover plates? the originals stick down past them slightly and may have been tucked under a bit.

The seal retainer stops at the bottom of the aperture and the seal continues for a couple of inches. In other words you have to cut the whole seal 2" longer and then cut the soft seal along where it joins the retainer and then cut the retainer only at the bottom of the door aperture. Hope that makes sense!
