Hi all,
What are people's opinions on pancake filters?
I was considering one, purely aesthetically :p
what are their pros/cons?
will i have to tell the insurers?
any comment welcomed,
cheers
Matt

depends on the type. you can get horrible ones that i can't imagine flow very well, or you can get nice K&N ones that do flow very well, and are 'noisey'. but i like the noise mine makes
i've told my insurers, not sure if they cared or not. whenever there's something i'm not sure about telling them, i tell them anyway. can't be too safe!

A true 'pancake' filter is a useless thing - it's face is too close to the carb inlet and restricts air flow at full chat. The face needs to be at least 1.5 X dia of carb inlet away from the carb inlet - and better to be 2 X. The K&N taper type filters are much better and DO help air flow - but are also rather noisy.

And expensive.
I have a pair of K&N pancakes simply because there is not enough clearance to get a taper filter on the back carb
I know, single HIF44 better than twin HS2s but the twins look more traditional
