how does one stop small birds scrabbling around in the gutters on the house?

i ask as i sleep next to the outside wall and the sound of the little horrors running up and down the guttering at stupid o'clock in the morning.

i have washed them out, so there is no dust or grit for them to fluff around in, anything else i could try?

You can get mesh gutter guard / covers to prevent leaves blocking up gutters - this will also deter birds. Just do a google search. If it is not a year round problem - just at this time of year when the birds are young - why not move your bed away from the outside wall, or turn it round so your head is at the other end and try ear plugs

Get a cat.....

there are plenty of cats around here, its the fact that the little s*ds scrabble around the gutter and it echoes up though the roof, which makes it louder. i have cleaned it all out and considered borrowing next doors shot gun to emphasis the point to the birds tomorrow morning.

Maybe your house was built on land once inhabited by those birds ancesters. Only joking, but I often think of territory we take over at the expense of other life forms, and then wonder why they have the cheek to still hang around! Regarding your issue, I suppose you could put a dummy hawk up in the gutter area.

They are probably NOT in the gutter - but up under the slates!! Remember - you are not permitted to disturb nesting birds.......

That's a point--------scrap the hawk suggestion!!Wait 'till the young have flown.

i bet the birds complain to each other about all the people walking around under their roof making lots of noise

well it appears the cleaning of the gutter has worked, no scrabbling around or squawking. a pleasant sleep was enjoyed.

bloody crows are a problem here, sit on the aerial from about 5 am onwards screeching and squawking until someone puts some food out for them- and its not me! and they seem to race up and down the roof .

There's a wood pigeon somewhere around where I live that starts off as soon as it gets light in the mornings

We've got a Woodpecker who can't seem to make up it's mind which tree to "modify" at 5am each morning!

For the last few days one or other of us have been woken early by a tapping on the window. The culprit is a Magpie I'm not sure what it wants but I suspect it's trying to steal shiny things on the inside!

I live in southern California.we have flocks of big green parrots.( wild one's).
crows are quiet in comparison. they were set loose when the Budwieser park closed
15 years ago. They have multiplyed and are now indigenous to the area.
