are you a member of the owners club? footman james doesn't normally insure drivers under 25, but if you're in the club they'll insure you!

Under the MMOC young drivers scheme FJ will quote for 17 years old and upwards. Have you tried ringing them rather than going for an on-line quote? The dedicated phone number for club members is: 0844 8750596

If you contact Liz Saxon in the club office she should be able to let you know what your membership number is without you needing to wait for it to arrive (providing she has received your form). E-mail: liz.saxon@MMOC (dot) org.uk

My son`s quotes from FJ are £1395,86 fully comp and £877.52 tpft for a 1275cc and £1120 and £706.86 tpft for 1098cc.
This is 17 year old first insurance and provisional with unlimited mileage and kept on the road.
There is no cheaper with restricting milage or garaging.
Lancaster insurance computer says NO! LOL.

FJ seem to be about the only company who will offer 17yr olds insurance. (MMOC Young Driver's Scheme) Remember to quote your membership number. This scheme won't appear on their website - you have to ring them. My children have all used it when they started driving. After the first year the premium usually comes down a bit. When they pass their test it's usually quite competitive until they reach 25.

The problem with most other insurers is the huge hike in the price when they pass their test.
Footman James is the same price for provisional or full licence.
Sabre which comes up at £1300 for provisional is £3000 once the test is passed.

Its because they assume all young drivers are idiots and show off (usually into a lamp-post). When you are a learner you have to have an adult in the car at all times so are less likely to be an idiot.

Sadly all young people tend to be painted with the same brush...

Another vote for Footman James' MMOC young members scheme. I was despairing that i'd need to sell my MM as the cheapest quote I could get was £2600! TPF&F. Footman James comes in at half that for a Fully comp cover which is the same on provisional and full license. Tho' still a big expense, is do-able for me and will mean that I don't need to sell up my MM. i'm 17 and my MM is my first car.

I can recommend FJ - mind you at 21 and with an 803 - with club membership discount the premium came to £233.
