I am currently restoring a 1961 traveller which has a home made looking heat deflector bolted to the passenger front floor well.
The deflector seems to be made of 2 pieces of aluminium woth a sheet of asbestos sandwiched in between.

I have removed this and will wrap and take to licenced tip.

Does anyone have a similar looking deflector or know if this was factory fitted?

My 1970 traveller seems to have a heat deflector made from aluminium which looks more original.

Can you buy the later heat deflector and is it essential?

That's the only type I've ever seen.

Be careful down thew tip - ask them where the full body suit and breathing apparatus is...
but being serious - just don't bereak it into bits and/or breathe the dust.

Don't bother with the deflector, it keeps the passenger's feet warm in the winter

The new ones have a piece of plaster board instead of the asbestos.

Never bothered to re-fit mine, has not created any problems.

I have removed it from both my minors, only a water / rust trap

i removed mine, de-rusted the floor and repainted. then fitted a new one. trouble is it doesnt quite line up with my large bore exhaust! even with the heat shield in place the floor gets pretty warm!

I just used a bit of ally sheet with 1in spacers on the bolts to create an air gap.
Hoping it will work, haven't got the engine back in yet.(or much else! )[frame][/frame]
