Hi folks, I have just called Footman James to arrange an insurance quote for my 17 year old son - they were extremely efficient and responded positively to mention of the club scheme.
I was quoted £541.00 TPFT for my 17 year old recently passed son on a 1098cc Minor. This is the first quote I have had, several others would not even quote.
I think it is a good quote but would be interested to hear others.

That's not a bad quote for a 17 year old with no driving history. All of my 3 have used the Young Driver scheme with FJ.

I had the misfortune to break down on the A21 in rush hour, ironically en-route to East Sussex Minors for a further facelift to my dear old traveller. I have already e-mailed Footman James to thank them for the excellent breakdown service. My initial call was answered promptly and the operator was very efficient fixing my position and arranging Reliance of Sevenoaks to attend within the hour. The extremely helpful man from Reliance arrived within 50 minutes of my initial call and immediately moved us to a safe parking area to see what he could do. The upshot was a comfortable drive to ESM and what could have been a very stressful occasion was instead a well managed efficient exercise. That alone was worth my premium.

that annoys me even more as FJ just sent me my renewal through of £640 for tpft. it's been £420 for the last 3 years. Now i'm 21, it's gone up!

it's been suggested that the price of tpft has gone up and fully comp has gone down. so i'll ask them to quote me for fully comp, and i suggest you try that too!

I use Lancaster, just over £500 for a provisional license, with breakdown recovery, as a member of MMOC

I have used FJ for many years and even had a payout on a car which caught fire and was destroyed. I have an agreed value on my traveller and the quote combined for that and my pickup is £137. I will need to get a valuation on the pickup once restoration is complete.Presume the premium will go up a bit then.

Others have found RH insurance to be very good and a number of people have moved to them.

No only discount is for limiting mileage to 1500.

Well I've just been ringing around for my 20yr old son who's hoping to pass on his 3rd try this month and FJ are quoting £960 FC. They are quoting the same for TPFT.

Lancaster refuse to quote for anyone under 25yrs

It's £435 FC with him and my 17yr old as learners and goes up to £1670 with the 17yr old on the same policy.

Those are big numbers in anybody's book, I can only assume it is down to your postcode - have you checked how your postcode is ranked in terms of crime statistics? I believe you can check on one of the many house price comparison websites.

The fact that my cars are kept in a locked garage overnight reduced the price considerably, I also agreed to a restricted mileage policy of less than 3000 miles per annum.

I was also surprised to find that lancaster, Adrian Flux and RH insurance would not even consider quoting unless - in their words " I was prepared to pay over £3,000" .

960 fully comp seems about right tbh for an under 21. The other figures seem a bit random though, may well be worth ringing up fj again and speaking to someone different.

I got my first quote with FJ a year ago for £630 fully comp, aged 18 and a half, having held my license for a year with no accidents (but was a named driver, so no NCB). Last month I got my renewal through the post and it'd gone up to £850!! Not happy! Phoned around a few other insurance companies but no one could match FJ for breakdown cover/unlimited mileage (it's my daily driver and I managed to put around 12k miles on it in the last year) so I called up FJ and told them I'd gotten the price down to £700 elsewhere, and low and behold I got a magical new quote of £730 Still not happy that it's gone up, but pleased that I didn't pay what they wanted me to pay originally. Only another few weeks until I'm out of my two year new driver probationary period with no points thus far

I have just had my quote through from FJ...

I have a converted J reg ex post office van, now a flat bed pick-up.

Last year I paid them £173.70

This year the quote is £257.42!

This, I gather, is with a MMOC discount.

For some reason they like to add European Personal Travel Insurance within the policy (why?)

I have checked through the small print and both offer:

Comp & not for business use; same agreed value; UK & EU breakdown; Legal Protection; Foreign use; BOTH are through Equity Red Star...

Differences seen in small print but may be offered as standard by the other:

FJ have listed extra: EU breakdown RECOVERY; EU Travel Personal Insurance and Road Rage injury benefits. DISCOUNTED PRICE as a member of MMOC.

RH have listed extra: Medical expenses; Loss of parts from Garage; Loss of Excise Licence; Windscreen cover.

RH quote = £80.46...

Do I take it from this FJ are seeking to price members out of their market or are they assuming MMOC members wouldn't question an officially approved supplier?
