Just a thought, everyone talks about putting larger drums on their cars. But has anyone put twin leading shoes like the ones on the front onto a modified backplate on the rear of the car? I think it wouldn't be too hard to do ...

opposing shoes are used on the to allow the handbrake to work in both directions (also on modern cars).

The rear brakes don't do that much, relative to the fronts, due to weight transfer under braking.

I once fitted a brake pressure limiting valve to the rear brakes on my Mini - and when setting it up with different strength springs - at one point the rear brakes were effectively doing nothing - and the braking was terrible! Minor is a LOT heavier at the rear than a Mini - and has effectively the same size rear brakes - they DO share the braking load, and if not working due to seized cylinders, the effect is very noticeable.As pointed out - the handbrake needs to be able to work in both directions. Twin leading shoes would be fine for braking - but difficult to rig the handbrake mechanism into it! A set of 8" rear drums from a W 1500 make for very effective rear brakes on a Minor - and great handbrake action!
