Brake light switch

Hi there,

this morning someone told me that Percy doesn't show any brake lights.

I checked the bulbs and the wiring. Everything is fine but there is no light. In the end I connected both wires at the brake light switch and had permant brake light.

To me it looks like the switch is broken. Someone else with a different idea?

A few years ago I had the same problem with my Midget and used a Volkswagen brake light switch which was an easy swap (VW part no. 113945515H). None of us had a problem to use such a strange part to keep an MG going as it was available.

How much brake fluid will drop out of the pipe when I take the switch out of the system? I won't mind a few drops but don't like the idea of bleeding the brakes if it can be avoided.

Kind regards from Essen

Achim

Just swap over quickly - a little fluid will come out (so catch it with a rag) - and if you put a plastic bag over the master cylinder filler hole and then refit the cap over the bag - that will limit the release of fluid. There should be no need to bleed the brakes. Don't forget to remove the bag!

Hello Roy,
that's a clever gimmick using a plastic bag to reduce leakage. :D
Do you think that Volkswagen switch will fit?
The MG part no. is C16062und can be substituted right away.

Yes, it's the same as the early Midget ones.
