A wire is a single, usually cylindrical, flexible strand or rod of metal. Wires are used to bear mechanical loads and to carry electricity and signals. (

Hope this helps.

Electrical cables must NEVER change colour at a connector....... Looks like someone has been bodging your wiring!

the black with the yellow/green going to it, that could be a new earth wire going into an old black earth, right?
i need to get a plug that adapts the purple into two female bullet connectors.

Yes - could be the bodger has indeed done his best by using a commercial green/yellow cable as his earth connection....... Most would just use the car body!

the green/yellow bullet male is going into a black wire female bullet and there's another female bullet hole on this. is there any way to tell this is an earth using resistance or checking for the absence of 12volts?

If a wire is connected to the body it will be earthed, any simple meter of buzzer will be useful for detecting continuity.

Black to a green might be a black wire from heater blower motor to a green (= fused live feed) power wire. Heater motor often has 2 black wires in case you have +ve earth instead of -ve. Green with yellow trace is occasionally a live feed that has gone through a switch.
