Chassis No.

Our Morris Minor Convertible is currently mid renovation, and we were asked if it was an 'original' convertible, told to check the chassis no. and that would confirm one way or another. Start of no. on log book says HAT, plate on car says MAT (which obviously we presume be the correct one). How do we sort this out? Can anyone help? Any ideas?
